RÖFIX underlay plasters

The base plaster is the most important layer of plaster that serves as a protective, waterproof and water-repellent layer, but also for leveling the substrate and the base to which the final layer of plaster adheres. WITH RÖFIX plasters are always on the safe side, because in addition to being an aesthetically attractive element, they also protect the wall from weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors. Everything about RÖFIX plasters and types of plasters is presented below.
Types of plasters
As a rule, the division of different types of plaster is done according to the following criteria:
• applied materials, that is, the binder used (lime plasters, lime-cement plasters, cement plasters, gypsum plasters, clay plasters and organic or artificial resins);
• place of mortar preparation (factory or on the construction site);
• method of installation (manual or machine);
• surface treatment technique (scraped plaster, scraped plaster, grooved plaster and plaster put on with a spoon);
• function (thermal plaster, sound insulation plaster, renovation plaster, magnetic plaster).

Underlay plaster is applied to standard absorbent substrates directly on the substrate in a coating thickness of 1-3 cm. If the flatness of the substrate deviates by more than 5–10 mm, it is necessary to pre-fill the substrate. Otherwise, the substrate will be difficult to level. Some penetrations (pipes and cables) can also be covered with suitable plaster. The underlying plaster has the role of a supporting layer for the subsequent application of the finishing plaster. As a rule, traditional underlay plasters contain different types of lime (often with cement) or gypsum as a binder. In interior spaces, they serve as a base for wallpaper and coatings. Plasters with a higher proportion of cement are used as plasters for footings or in damp areas (eg basements or bathrooms) and as a bearing layer for heavy coverings (natural stone or tiles).

Preparation of the substrate
One of the most important prerequisites for quality installation of materials is good adhesion of the plaster to the substrate. As a rule, the substrate must be free of dust and clean. Loose and non-wearable parts must be removed. In the case of new construction, it is necessary to check whether the concrete walls have traces of formwork oils. In this case, the walls must be moistened. If the formwork oils still remain on the surface, they should be additionally and thoroughly washed with a suitable cleaning agent.

Suitable substrate is:
• dry
• straight
• wearable and solid
• stable enough
• is not water-repellent, evenly absorbent, homogeneous
• rough, dust-free, clean
• no harmful efflorescence
• unfrozen and at temperatures above + 5 °C
