Weber tixogel adhesives for tiles

Weber long-lasting solution for water protection

Waterproofing is necessary to avoid water penetration into the building structure and to protect the building from damage. IN Weber a highly elastic and fast-setting water-repellent coating has been developed D-protect.

It is a one-component waterproofing coating suitable for interior and exterior use. It can be used in bathrooms, kitchens and on terraces and balconies. It is immediately ready for use and is suitable for use in underfloor heating systems. We bring you everything about its application and features in today's blog.

What are the advantages of Weber D-protect products?

  • One-component waterproofing coating suitable for interior and exterior use
  • Highly elastic and fast-setting water-repellent coating
  • Ready for use
  • It is applied under ceramic tiles in bathrooms, kitchens and on terraces and balconies
  • It is suitable for use in underfloor heating systems
  • It bridges the cracks
  • Product classification DM (EN 14891:2012)
  • Consumption: approx... 0,6 kg/m2 per layer depending on the type and type of substrate

Preparation and use of Weber D-protect products

  • The substrate on which weber.tec D-protect is applied must be firm, load-bearing, and free from greasy traces of dust and other impurities.
  • All materials that reduce adhesion (paint residues, scale, grease, dust, etc.) must be removed
  • The surface tensile strength of the substrate measured by "pull off" testing must be > 1,0 N / mm2
  • Concrete substrates (min. 28 days old with residual moisture ≤ 2%), cement screeds and mortars based on cement and lime (min. 28 days old with residual moisture ≤ 1,5%) must be mechanically roughened and cleaned of dust, and then coat with weberprim 813 primer
  • Coat absorbent and old substrates with primer weberprim 813 diluted in a ratio of 1:3 with clean water, and non-absorbent substrates with undiluted primer weberprim 813 two hours before starting work (temperature 20°C, relative humidity up to 65%).

Application of the D-protect product

  • After applying the primer, and before applying the waterproofing, it is necessary to additionally strengthen all corners and penetrations with waterproofing tapes, corners and cuffs
  • Mix the product to obtain a uniform mass.
  • Webertec D-protect is applied by brush or roller in two layers for interior and three layers for exterior work. The thickness of one layer is 0,5 mm. Apply each subsequent layer perpendicular to the previous one.
  • The drying time between layers is about 120 minutes.*
  • Three to six hours after the application of the last layer of waterproofing, you can continue with the installation of ceramics with adhesive of minimum category C2 (standard EN 12004).*
  • It is important to ensure controlled drying, without drafts, direct exposure to the sun and heat sources.

* All listed parameters refer to standard weather conditions: temperature 20°C, relative humidity up to 65%. If the weather conditions are not in accordance with the standard, it is necessary to adapt the procedure to the given circumstances and to calculate that the product binds faster in warmer weather, or slower in colder weather, making sure that the temperature of the substrate and air is between 5°C and 30°C.
