Simple and high-quality waterproofing with Volbit 1K

Moisture in the basement can cause various consequences that can cause significant damage, the repair of which is expensive and demanding. Most often, stains and mold appear as a result of capillary moisture or a facade that is poorly realized, in which case it is necessary to determine whether the source of moisture is external or internal. Moisture in basements is affected by various factors, the most common of which are the following: breaking through the waterproofing, burst pipes in the walls, seepage and inadequate waterproofing.
The normal level of humidity for the human body is between 40-60%, and anything more than this increases the risk of respiratory diseases, skin diseases and asthma. If you have problems with increased humidity in the basement or are looking for waterproofing product which will justify all your expectations, you are in the right place! We bring you everything you need to know about proper basement waterproofing.
What is important when choosing the type of waterproofing?

What is important when choosing the type of waterproofing?

Choosing the type of waterproofing depends on the purpose of the building and the amount of water it is exposed to. Generally speaking, for all types of waterproofing it is important that:
• Impermeable to water
• Elastic
• Firm under pressure
• Resistant to high and low temperatures
• Permanent
• Compatible with other materials
• Harmless to groundwater
• Resistant to root penetration

Types of waterproofing

We distinguish several ways to properly isolate the basement from underground water.

Vertical protection

Vertical protection is used for internal walls if the groundwater is very close or there are no drainage systems around the house. The aforementioned protection is distributed around the perimeter of the building.

Horizontal insulation

Horizontal and vertical insulation are combined with each other to improve the protective properties of the material. Horizontal insulation is necessary for clay soil because it prevents vapor exchange at points that discharge groundwater.

Breakthrough waterproofing

Penetration waterproofing is used in groundwater pressure and drainage as its purpose is to fill voids to stop moisture from entering.

VOLBIT 1K-ideal product for basement waterproofing

VOLBIT 1K is a polymer-bituminous elastic coating filled with polystyrene granules designed for the waterproofing and protection primarily of buried reinforced concrete walls, but also of other UV-exposed surfaces such as AB foundation slabs, balconies, terraces or parking lots (under glaze or, for example, fall concrete ).
It has characteristics such as elasticity, the ability to bridge cracks, and quick and easy installation. The product is installed in two consecutive layers on a previously prepared substrate, which involves sanding and leveling any unevenness. The product is water-based, which means that it can be installed on the walls almost immediately after dismantling the formwork.
It is installed with a trowel or trowel or with the help of an airless machine by spraying. The consumption varies depending on the purpose and the conditions of the underground water, but it is generally around 3,6 liters/m2.
It is most often used as an alternative system to classic bitumen stickers, and it can be successfully combined with some other waterproofing technologies in adjacent positions (eg AB base plate or similar).

Areas of application
• For vertical and horizontal installation
• For waterproofing, protection and sealing
• For waterproofing foundations and facades
• For gluing thermal insulation panels and other panels of less weight

Installation procedure

The substrate must be prepared in accordance with DIN EN 18533 Part 3. The substrate must be dry, clean and free of sharp edges, cracks, frost, oil, grease, dust, chemical compounds and other impurities. Wooden, metal and plastic studs must be removed and penetrating water and other leaks must be prevented. Holes and voids must be filled. Bubbles due to pores in concrete can be reduced by installing a bonding layer or slurry. It is also recommended to prime the foundation with a diluted product.
